Hello 8th grade parents, The 8th grade is going to Philadelphia! We will be going on a two-day, one-night trip May 13th and 14th, 2020. We leave the morning of May 13th, and hope to return by 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. on May 14th.
On this two-day, one-night trip, students will explore the historic sites of Philadelphia that they've learned about in history class: the Constitution Center for historical interaction, and Independence Hall and the surrounding area that were fundamental to the founding of the United States. Lunch the first day will be at Philly Gourmet, and the meal is included in the payment for the trip. We then go on a guided tour of Eastern State Penitentiary, where Al Capone spent 8 months, and students get to see his cell and other sites in the former prison.
Dinner will be peanuts and crackerjacks (or any other ballpark food) as we take in a Phillies game! They're playing the L.A. Dodgers that night, and students will have access to any of the food vendors at Citizens Bank Park. Students are given a meal voucher ($15 cash back, provided by the tour company) for food and drinks.
We will be staying in the Courtyard Philadelphia City, where students will sleep 4 to a room (they'll fill out room requests later, after everyone's registered).
We'll start Day 2 with a morning run up the Rocky Steps! Then we'll go to the Franklin Institute, a world-renowned science museum, where they will take in the educational IMAX movie that will be playing on their one-of-a-kind 5-story tall domed screen, followed by exploration of all the exhibits the museum has to offer. The students from the last few years really enjoyed their time in the museum.
Lunch on the second day will be at the Shops at Liberty Place food court, where students will again be given $10 cash back.
Since students are given a meal voucher (or cash) for every meal, and a buffet breakfast is provided at the hotel, the only extra money they will need will be for souvenirs and snacks.
When walking around Philadelphia, students will be in groups of 10, with one chaperone with them at all times.
Students will be given bracelets each day with the number of CTA (our tour company) in case they get separated or lost.
There will be security guards on each floor of the hotel, and students will not leave their room after chaperones check them in at night.
Students should not be bringing any checks or money to school. All payments are handled through CTA (the tour company). CTA has provided this information for registration: Registration deadline is 11/08/2019
Go to www.CTAfieldtrips.com, click REGISTER, enter Trip Code " CVEU8 " (no quotes; case sensitive), complete all online forms, enter payment using debit or credit card (Visa/MasterCard/Discover). A separate registration must be completed for each participant.
Important Dates: November 8, 2019: Registration $75 deposit due (or $108 if you choose the $33 cancellation waiver, the ICW) January 17, 2020: $100 due February 21, 2020: $100 due March 20, 2020: Final balance ($101) due The total cost is $376, or $409 with the cancellation waiver (100% back no matter what if you cancel, up to the day of the trip). There are two additional costs, beyond souvenirs and snacks: we have every student wear the same two shirts (which will be created through an 8th grade t-shirt design contest), and those shirts are usually around $15 total. We also ask students bring $3 as a tip for the bus driver and the tour directors. So an extra $18 on top of the $376. This is money we'll collect separately at a later date and you don't need to worry about it when signing up. We really want all students to attend this trip, and if you have any questions about financial assistance, please email our Parent Coordinator Lisa Seale Cruz in the main office at email@example.com if you qualify for free or reduced lunch.
For any other questions, or if you are able to chaperone, please contact Mr. Sullivan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
